The research aims to: 1. Describe the Filipino Sign Language; 2. Discern ways to encourage the Filipinos to join the advocacy and know the uses and benefits of FSL to the Filipino Deaf Community; and 3. Understand the nature of the language to promote the institutionalization of the FSL.
This project aims to advocate for the recognition of the Filipino Sign Language to help the Filipino Deaf Community promote their culture, institutionalize their language, and invoke their rights. The research in this project aims to raise awareness on the promoting the educational, cultural, social, and legal recognition of the aforementioned sign language. The proponent will use Social Marketing Theory to design, implement, and strategically control the objectives of the project to have the audience gain a deeper insight with the stakeholders. The Newcomb’s Model will be used for the project’s medium to promote a dialogue and gain empathy with the stakeholders. The methods used in gathering research are reviews on existing studies, news articles, books and documents on the Filipino Sign Language and other related topics. The proponent will also include an interview conducted with local Deaf experts and members of the Filipino Deaf Community.
